Private Tom Gilland

The background of this man is not known at present, other than that he was born around 1892 in Larne, County Antrim.

Gilland enlisted in the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Service Squadron at Belfast on 21 May 1917. His regimental number was between UD/327 and UD/331. He was described as being 5' 4" tall, with a fresh complexion, light brown hair and blue eyes. He gave his occupation as a student.

On 28 May 1917, after only a week's service, Gilland deserted from Enniskillen. It is not known if he was ever apprehended.
